The Indian Pomegranate has a large, bright red colour and thin skin. When nearly ripe, the fruit gradually turns from pink to red. When fully ripe, the seeds (arils) are dark red. 

Preparation Ideas: Unless you like having red splatter all over your kitchen the best way to cleanly deseed a pomegranate is to cut it like the second photo here, place the pomegranate into a bowl of water and deseed it there. Once you've successfully extracted all the seeds you can drain the water out with a strainer, pick out any white rind and boom, you have a bowl full of pomegranate seeds and no mess.
